By including an actual assessment (as opposed to a simulated assessment) in the training, the trainees experience their competence as assessors immediately, and they will be better prepared to conduct additional assessments within their organization on their own. The classroom participants get actual experience helping to conduct a real assessment. OPM3® BOOT CAMP™ Helps You Get PMI OPM3 Certified!
You may know that PMI offers an OPM3 ProductSuite Assessor Certification (OPM3-CA) and an OPM3 ProductSuite Consultant Certification (OPM3-CC). Certified assessors and consultants are licensed by PMI to use the ProductSuite, which is a robust toolset for assessing and benchmarking your organization to institutionalize Project, Program, and Portfolio Management. In order to be licensed to use ProductSuite, the client’s personnel must earn the OPM3-CA and OPM3-CC ProductSuite Certifications through PMI, which requires training that PMI provides, and which requires applicants to meet entrance criteria for the certification training. Entrance criteria include knowledge of OPM3 and prior assessment experience. Specifically, one of the criteria that applicants may satisfy in order to be accepted to undergo PMI’s OPM3 ProductSuite Certification training is a minimum of 500 hours (six months) of Assessing, Auditing, or Consulting experience over the past three years, with a minimum of 50 hours in each discinpline. Another criterion is that applicants complete an OPM3 self-assessment of their own organization. OPM Experts LLC’s OPM3 Boot Camp workshop helps clients to meet these entrance criteria for PMI’s OPM3 ProductSuite Certification training. Personnel will receive their training by helping to conduct an actual OPM3 ProductSuite assessment under our guidance.

Invite Stakeholders from your Organization to Visit you in OPM3 Boot Camp!
During the training, client personnel will be asked to represent the organization being assessed, specifically to answer assessment questions on behalf of their organization, e.g. 1) Does the organization have any Project Management policies? 2) Are Project Management processes documented? 3) Are these processes performed consistently in the organization being assessed? In OPM3 ProductSuite, the use of proxies in this manner is called a Desk Assessment because the person(s) answering assessment questions sit together with an assessor “at a desk” and act as proxies speaking on behalf of the entire organization. In comparison to a Desk Assessment, the other alternative in OPM3 ProductSuite is a Rigorous Assessment, in which Project Management practitioners (e.g. Project Managers) are also interviewed and Project Management artifacts are collected. The client may engage a small number of participants for a Desk Assessment or include other practitioners and key stakeholders in order to expand the Desk Assessment into a Rigorous Assessment.

The training explains how the assessment is one step within the lifecycle of capability development resulting in the achievement of Best Practices through repeated assessments. The implementation cycle is repeatable at any scale, and is designed to cause learning and productivity gains when repeated at increasing scales. Our training approach begins with preparation for the assessment, including validation of the scope of the organization and personnel to be assessed, analysis of stakeholders, configuration of assessment tools, and scheduling of interviews of personnel within the organization. While the OPM3 basics will be reviewed, this workshop includes more advanced topics like scoping assessments vertically and horizontally to create momentum, including the right people, getting buy-in to results, dealing with politics, artifact review techniques, and assessment interviewing tips. The workshop addresses details of assessing and developing process capabilities including governance, policies, training, compliance functions, metrics, and control systems. It also explains how to use OPM3 to orchestrate organizational change, transform the Project Management culture, and to implement or advance a PMO.
